We recently published a new cohort study on 19 patients with Parkinson’s Disease who had been treated with subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (DBS) five years before. The paper results from joint work with colleagues from the Neurology Units of the Azienda USL-IRCCS of Reggio Emilia and the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria of Modena.

New publication

The paper describes a cohort of 19 patients with Parkinson’s Disease treated with DBS and assessed at the five-year postoperative follow-up. Patients underwent:

  • Positron emission tomography, to evaluate the amyloid-β deposition
  • Motor clinical assessment, using the UPDRS-III and the H&Y
  • Motor instrumental assessment, using the instrumental timed-up-and-go test (iTUG)
  • Neuropsychological assessment, to evaluate speech and cognitive functions
New publication

Instrumental gait analysis was performed at the Laboratorio Analisi Movimento (LAM), where Eng. Andrea Merlo works. The test showed no differences between patients with and without amyloid-β deposition.

Future works

This article is part of a series of publications resulting from the LAM’s collaboration with neighboring clinical institutions. We are proud that an increasing number of physicians and rehabilitation experts are seeking cooperation with us, recognizing the potential and added value of instrumental movement analysis.
