Oral presentation about artificial intelligence and gait analysis
The 35th training course in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, organized by SIMFER – the Italian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, was held in Riccione (Italy) from May 25th to 28th, 2025.
Dr. Giacomo Basini, from the Gait & Motion Analysis Laboratory at Sol et Salus hospital, contributed with an oral presentation titled: “Instrumented Gait Analysis and Artificial Intelligence: Added Value in Rehabilitation Medicine or Just Technological Sophistication?”
AI at the service of clinicians
His talk highlighted how artificial intelligence can become a powerful tool in the field of gait analysis, provided its use is driven by well-defined clinical questions and the AI models are developed through close collaboration between bioengineers and clinicians.
It was a valuable opportunity for discussion, made possible by the contribution of the Research Unit led by scientific director Dr. Andrea Merlo – head of MerloBioEngineering –, together with PhD Eng. Farshad Samadi, Prof. Rita Stagni (University of Bologna), and the entire Gait Lab team under the direction of Dr. Davide Mazzoli.
This research line is expected to yield numerous publications in the coming years. The first one has already been published — and we discussed it here.
