It ended last week the XXIII SIAMOC Congress (Italian Society of Clinical Movement Analysis) from Oct. 4-7 at the Seraphicum Convention Hall in Rome, Italy.

MerloBioEngineering attended the meeting along with the Gait & Motion Analysis Laboratory of the Sol et Salus Hospital.

Dr. Giacomo Basini, expert in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, presented the study entitled “Gait deviation index to quantify the short-term effect of functional surgery on gait kinematics in patients with cerebral palsy. A prospective cohort study”.

Gait deviation index in cerebral palsy

Gait in children with cerebral palsy is often characterized by alterations and asymmetries, as well as deformities of the lower limb. These can limit movement and impair quality of life, as well as cause pain. Our scientific work aimed to illustrate the use of a gait summary index to measure and quantify the effects of functional surgery in this population.

We are honoured for the opportunity to have presented the report, and proud for winning the first prize as the best paper presented of SIAMOC 2023.

Our daily goal is to improve assessment and treatment procedures through the study of robust and valid outcome measures. Motion analysis is the foundation of our studies and provides support for decision-making and outcome audits.
